After spending her childhood in foster care, Danielle Johnson-Small hopes to pursue a social work career in order to help children who are in similar situations, the Tallahassee Democrat reports.

Johnson-Small told the news outlet that many social workers helped her during her youth, and she would like to help children in similar ways.

"I had such a good experience with social work, and many kids don't have that," she said. "I want to be able to bring that to them, and help improve the system."

This spring, Johnson-Small said she will graduate with a degree in social work. While in school, she has received help from the Fostering Achievement Fellowship program, which gives financial aid to individuals who were in the foster care system, the news outlet reports.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job opportunities for individuals who want to become family or child social workers will continue to grow in the future. Throughout the next seven years, the number of positions for these professionals is predicted to increase by about 12 percent.
